A Centennial Year - Masonic Homes Kentucky

A Centennial Year

In 2017, we celebrated the 150th anniversary of Masonic Homes Kentucky, the first Masonic home of its kind in the world. This was a momentous milestone celebrating a legacy of care and compassion for those who needed our services, regardless of affiliation.

A part of this history includes the relocation of Masonic Homes Kentucky from downtown Louisville to its current 82-acre location between St. Matthews and Crescent Hill in 1925, making this the centennial year of our Louisville Campus.

In its early years, the Campus provided care, housing and education to more than 600 orphans and widows of Masons who perished during World War I and the influenza pandemic.

Referred to as the Little City Beautiful, the Louisville Campus landscape plan was designed by the renowned Olmsted Brothers firm, which specialized in the preservation of natural park-like settings to provide healthier living conditions.

Today, the Louisville Campus focuses on senior living services offering all levels of aging care, home care, medical services and a pediatric child care program. It remains true to its non-profit, purpose-driven mission through its charitable care programs and services.

As we celebrate our centennial year, we will be sharing historical photos and facts on our social media throughout the year so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We will also host a Gatsby-themed gala in October to benefit Sproutlings Pediatric Day Care & Preschool.

Established during World War I, Masonic Homes Kentucky’s history is rich with stories, and momentous milestones entrenched in our legacy of care.
